17 Mar – Originally scheduled to kick off this 19 March was the 19th edition of Le French Festival (LFF) in Malaysia. However, this year's festival will no longer take place soon as it has been cancelled as of today. "Following the announcement and implementation of a Movement Control Order in Malaysia by the Prime Minister at 10pm on 16 March 2020, it is with deep regret and a heavy heart that Le French Festival 2020 will be cancelled. "The order is made under the Prevention & Control of Infectious Disease Act 1988 and Police Act 1967. This Movement Control Order directly affects Le French Festival during this period as it falls under the category of "general prohibitions of mass movements and gatherings across the country including religious, sports, social and cultural activities," it was announced in a press statement from organiser Alliance Française de Kuala Lumpur (AFKL). Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin announced yesterday that a 14-day Movement Control Order will begin nationwide from tomorrow, 18 March. Prior to the announcement, LFF 2020 had cancelled its non-movie related events but was still planning to go ahead with the film screenings in cinemas. Current circumstances, including the closure of cinemas, have however prompted the screenings to be cancelled as well. LFF 2020 was originally set to be held in Kuala Lumpur (19 March to 5 April), Penang (9 to 19 April), Johor Bahru (16 to 19 April) and Kota Kinabalu (23 to 26 April).
