24 Apr – Following Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin's announcement yesterday evening that the Movement Control Order (MCO) has been extended to 12 May 2020, cinemas in Malaysia are also extending their temporary closure to next month. MBO Cinemas announced that it will remain closed until 12 May as well, while TGV Cinemas posted a notice saying that its nationwide locations will be closed until this 31 May. While other cinemas such as GSC, mmCineplexes and LFS Cinemas did not post any update at the time of writing regarding their locations' extended closure, it is expected that they, along with the smaller exhibitors in the country, will adhere to the new MCO end date and remain closed. The temporary shutdown of local cinemas started last month, on 18 March, and was originally slated to end on 31 March. It has, however, been extended every time the MCO end date changes. Earlier this month, several of the cinemas extended their closure up until the end of this month, but current circumstances mean that the extension will now last beyond the 30 April end date.
