"That Thing You Do!" songwriter passes away from COVID-19

Adam Schlesinger passed away from complications due to COVID-19 infection.

2 Apr – Adam Schlesinger, founding member of American rock band Fountains of Wayne, was reported to have passed away after contracting COVID-19.

His attorney Josh Grier confirmed the sad news to Rolling Stone on 1 April, just a day after telling Variety that the singer, who had been in the hospital for a week, was "very sick" and on ventilator.

Schlesinger was best known as the writer and co-producer of "That Thing You Do!", the musical hit from the 1996 movie of the same name, for which he was nominated for an Oscar and a Golden Globe.

Aside from being busy in the music world performing and writing songs, either for his band or for other artists, the 52-year-old had also provided songs for various shows and movies. Another one of his well-known film works was composing the "Ice Age: Continental Drift" OST, "Master of the Seas", sung by Jennifer Lopez and Peter Dinklage.

Among the other movies that he'd provided music to were "Shallow Hal", "Me, Myself & Irene", "There's Something About Mary", "Josie and the Pussycats" and "Scary Movie".

He is survived by two children.

Coincidentally, Tom Hanks, who wrote and directed the abovementioned "That Thing You Do!" movie, also contracted the virus. Both he and his wife, Rita Wilson, have fully recovered.
