23 Mar – Former film producer Harvey Weinstein is the latest to join the list of the rich and famous that have been diagnosed with COVID-19.

According to Niagara Gazette, the 68-year-old has been put in isolation at Wende Correctional Facility in Western New York, where he is currently serving his 23-year sentence for rape and sexual assault.

It is reported that he is one of the two inmates that tested positive for COVID-19 at the prison.

"There is no better breeding ground for this virus than a closed environment such as a correctional facility," said Michael Powers, president of the New York State Correctional Officers and Police Benevolent Association (NYSCOPBA).

However, Powers declined to comment further on Weinstein's current condition due to privacy rules.

Reportedly, last Wednesday, when Weinstein entered the state prison system from New York City jail Rikers Island, he was already tested positive for the virus.

His current location, Wende, operates an intake center for new state inmates, who are usually sent to other facilities after going through medical and security assessments.

He had been alternating between Rikers Island and a New Yok City hospital, for high blood pressure and chest pain treatments, during his trial – prior to being accepted by the prison system last week after his sentencing.
