15 Nov – US cinema chain AMC Theatres is now saying yes to cinemagoers paying for tickets and concessions with cryptocurrencies. The news was announced by CEO Adam Aron on 12 November, who tweeted this: "Big newsflash! As promised, many new ways NOW to pay online at AMC. We proudly now accept: drumroll, please... Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Litecoin." In addition, Aron stated AMC Theatres will also accept Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal. "Incredibly, they already account for 14 percent of our total online transactions! Dogecoin next," he enthused.
However, based on his tweet, it could be said that this method of payment will only be available for online purchases for now. It is noted that AMC has expressed its attention to accept cryptocurrency as early as August this year, saying that it will be implementing such process by the end of the year. In a previous interview, according to Engadget, Aron stated that AMC is exploring the creation of its own cryptocurrency, as well as making a foray into the world of NFTs.
