1 Mar – It was revealed that a new Superman movie is currently in the works for Warner Bros, with famed American author-journalist Ta-Nehisi Coates in the writer's seat. The upcoming movie, which has been described as a "reboot" of the film franchise, will be produced under Bad Robots, the studio owned by J.J. Abrams of "Lost" and Star Wars Sequel Trilogy fame. "I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America's most iconic mythic hero," said Coates in a statement to Shadow and Act.
However, no director has been attached to helm the movie, nor has it been confirmed as to whether Henry Cavill will be playing the superhero or if the character will be played by somebody new. It was previously rumoured that "Black Panther" actor Michael B. Jordan would be playing Superman, but nothing had since been confirmed. Known for writing cultural, social, and political issues, Coates has published three non-fiction books including the award-winning "Between the World and Me", and has also written a Black Panther series and a Captain America series for Marvel Comics. It is noted that back in January last year, Bad Robot and WarnerMedia were revealed to have been developing the Justice League Dark Universe for film and TV.
