26 Jan – At last after a long wait, video streaming platform Disney+ Hotstar - owned by entertainment and media corporate giant, The Walt Disney Company - seems to be indicating that it is due to be launched in Malaysia very soon. Even though there has not been an official announcement, this news was hinted by the newly verified Instagram account of Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia with its blue Verified tick. However, Disney+ has deleted the Facebook page of Disney+ Hotstar Malaysia without any explanation. In addition, based on reports from the 'What's On Disney Plus', Disney's official website, there are job listings for personnel to be based in Malaysia.
The Walt Disney Company South-East Asia has announced the appointment of Datuk Ahmad Izham Omar as its Executive Director of Content & Creative. This was soon after his resignation as Chief Executive Officer of production company Pineworks Studios under Media Prima. Disney+ Hotstar was launched in India on 3 April 2020, marking the Asian debut of this streaming platform. Thereafter, Disney+ Hotstar announced its rollout in South East Asia, which began with its launch in Indonesia on 5 September 2020, and followed up with an planned launch in Singapore on 23 February 2021.
