19 Apr – George Miller's upcoming "Mad Max: Fury Road" prequel will soon begin production in Australia. The project, which recently received financial incentives from the Australian federal and state governments, will begin filming in Western Sydney and regional New South Wales, and is expected to be the biggest film ever to be made in Australia - creating 850 jobs and injecting hundreds of millions into the local economy. Titled, "Furiosa", the movie will star "The Queen's Gambit" actress Anya Taylor-Joy as the titular character. Charlize Theron played the original character in the aforementioned 2015 film.
In the previous film, Furiosa - or Imperator Furiosa - is a war captain under Immortan Joe who turns against him in order to free Joe's female concubines known as "The Five Wives". She later teams up with Mad Max to bring the wives to safety. Other confirmed actors for the prequel include Chris Hemsworth and Yahya Abdul Mateen II. The movie, to be directed by "Mad Max" creator George Miller, is set to be released in theatres in June 2023.
