The movie, which officially opened in theatres on 22 December in 76 countries, cleared the USD 50 million mark in nearly five days since its release; an unprecedented feat seeing that the film is also being released on streaming on HBO Max at the same time.
"The Matric Resurrections", written and directed by Lana Wachowski, sees the return of Keanu Reeves as Neo, who died in the last movie of the previous trilogy.
Its synopsis read, "In a world of two realities - everyday life and what lies behind it - Thomas Anderson will have to choose to follow the white rabbit once more. Choice, while an illusion, is still the only way in or out of the Matrix, which is stronger, more secure and more dangerous than ever before."
Aside from original stars that include Carrie-Anne Moss, Lambert Wilson, and Jada Pinkett Smith, the new movie is also joined by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris and Priyanka Chopra.
