10 Sep – Never one to shy away from trying various genres, it was revealed that Nicolas Cage is set to make his first Western movie, "The Old Way". The upcoming movie will star Cage as Colton Briggs, a former gunslinger turn family man who - alongside his 12-year-old daughter - decides to avenge his wife's death in the hands of a gang of outlaws. "After 43 years in cinema, I'm only now being invited to the important and storied genre of the Western with both "The Old Way" and "Butcher's Crossing"," said Cage, the latter referring to the other western movie offer he has accepted. "Being born and raised in the West, this is another good match and long overdue. I'm excited and compelled by the complex characters of both Briggs and Miller, and to find new ground to play at 57 is indeed galvanizing."
The upcoming movie will be helmed by "Acts of Violence" director Brett Donowho with script by Carl W. Lucas. Cage recently won praises for his performance in the art house film, "Pig", in which he plays a reclusive truffle forager who returns to Portland to find the person who stole his beloved truffle pig.
