12 Jun – French actor Omar Sy was clearly entertained by his Malaysian fans recently to warrant him to say how "lawak" (funny) they are.

Yes. Lawak.

The "Lupin" star recently had his Malaysian fans in a barrel of laughter, after re-tweeting a promotional teaser from Netflix Malaysia that was captioned, "Rupanya Lupin & Lipin dah kembali. Lupin Part 2 kini disiarkan di Netflix." (It turns out Lupin & Lipin is back. Lupin Part 2 is now streaming on Netflix."

Omar, who must have been baffled by the term "Lupin Lipin" at first, posted, "HAHA I just got someone to help explain this Lupin-Lipin joke. My Malaysian fans are really clever - like Assane."

He then added, "Lawak la korang (did I say that right?)"

To that, Netflix Malaysia responded, "You said it perfectly, Omar. Next you gotta learn "lepak" and come hang with us."

Fans quickly took to the comments to respond, with one referring to Omar's character in the series, and wrote jokingly, "Don't trust his lawak words. He is full of deception", while another expressed, "Omar my man, you just earned yourself a few hundreds of followers."

On the other hand, some are jokingly suggesting that Lupin should be collaborating with the creator of "Upin and Ipin" for some kind of spin-off.

For those not in the know, the whole joke started with Malaysian fans deciding to share this particular photo of two Lupins (with one of them being given an "additional" feature):

Why? Because his name reminds people of this particular Malaysian twins who are not only famous locally, but in Singapore and Indonesia as well:

Yes, we know. It's the kind of internet joke that has no rhyme nor reason. But hey, our famous friend is clearly entertained by it, and entertained us by being entertained!

On the other hand, part 2 of the French mystery thriller is now streaming on Netflix.

Created by George Kay and François Uzan, "Lupin" revolves around professional thief Assane Diop, who - inspired by the adventures of master thief Arsène Lupin, a character created by Maurice Leblanc in the early 1900s - decided to get revenge against a wealthy family that caused his father's death.

The series was watched by 70 million households during its first month, becoming the most-watched non-English series on Netflix.
