"Roh" is director Emir Ezwan's debut feature and the horror movie was a box office hit, collecting over RM500,000 in six weeks upon its opening in August 2020, even though Malaysia was (and is) still facing the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, the film was selected for competition at the TOHorror Fantastic Film Fest 2020 in Italy, and was screened at the Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) and the Jogja NETPAC Asian Film Festival (JAFF). Additionally, it was also picked to represent Malaysia at the 93rd Academy Awards (Oscars) 2021 in the International Feature Film category. Set in a war time era, "Roh" tells the story of a family who lives in seclusion by the fringes of the forest. They welcomed a girl-child who mysteriously appeared into their home, and she soon brings upon the family ominous predictions and strange incidents begin to haunt them. The film stars only six cast members: Farah Ahmad, Mhia Farhana, Harith Haziq and Putri Syahadah Nurqaseh, as well as husband-and-wife duo Namron and Junainah M. Lojong. (Photo Source: MUBI)
