21 Jun – This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the Sanjay Leela Bhansali romance movie, "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam", but it looks like both of its stars are still ignoring each other even in their Instagram posts celebrating the movie. On 18 June, Salman Khan, who plays the role of the cheerful aspiring musician Sameer in the movie, shared one photo of him with the director, and wrote, "It's been 22 years." However, fans quickly noticed that he only tagged Sanjay and co-star Ajay Devgan in the caption, instead of his leading lady and the protagonist of the movie, Aishwarya Rai.
The same was done by Aishwarya herself a day later, who posted several photos of herself from the movie and a couple of them with Sanjay, writing, "22 years of "HUM DIL DE CHUKE SANAM". I am reminded, by such an outpouring of love... but my dearest Sanjay... This one is evergreen... Forever... THANK YOU... and to ALL our audience world over... and my everLOVING family of well-wishers... THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR LOVE...ALWAYS. Much LOVE too." The actress then made the conscious decision not to tag anybody, not even Sanjay.
The only person who seemed excited about tagging everybody was Ajay Devgan, who posted, "22 years of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam; Salman, Sanjay, Ash & I knew we were making a super-sensitive film. Didn't think though that it would create history. Humbled."
Bollywood fans of old would not find this strange at all, seeing that both Salman and Aishwarya had been in a tumultuous relationship that started with the movie, and ended with allegations of an abusive relationship - one that Aishwarya (who is now married to Abhishek Bachchan) said to be the worst chapter in her life. Released in 1999, "Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam" tells the story of Nandini, a daughter of an Indian classical musician who has to choose between the man that she loves or the man that loves her. It became a hit at the Indian box office, becoming the third highest grossing of the Bollywood films of 1999.
