1 Oct – Two months after Scarlett Johansson first made headlines for going after Disney via a lawsuit, it was revealed that the two parties have now resolved their dispute in a peaceful manner. In a statement released on 30 September, the "Black Widow" star expressed that she is happy to have resolved their differences. "I'm incredibly proud of the work we've done together over the years and have greatly enjoyed my creative relationship with the team," she said. "I look forward to continuing our collaboration in years to come." As for Disney Studios chairman Alan Bergman, he said, "I'm very pleased that we have been able to come to a mutual agreement with Scarlett Johansson regarding Black Widow. We appreciate her contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe and look forward to working together on a number of upcoming projects, including Disney's Tower of Terror."
It is noted that Johansson's lawsuit was filed in July in Los Angeles, claiming that Disney has breached her contract by having a hybrid release of the said Marvel movie in both theatres and via Disney+, which has significantly affected her compensation; which was said to be largely based on box office receipts. Disney fired back by saying that the actress was paid USD 20 million for the film and that the decision was made due to the current pandemic. The studio had since been blasted for the said statement, with many calling it a shameless way of Disney to draw a negative picture of Johansson. On the other hand, it was also reported that the terms of the agreement have not been disclosed by both parties.
