8 Oct – Sony's "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" has recently made another record by crossing the USD 100 million mark since it was released. The sequel, which is directed by Andy Serkis, accumulated USD 102.1 million at the US box office in just five days, making it the first movie during the COVID-19 era to achieve the feat. Earlier this week, it was reported that the said film broke the pandemic era record with a USD 90 million on its opening weekend. Tom Rothman, Sony's film chief was elated over the news, telling the media, "With apologies to Mr. Twain: The death of movies has been greatly exaggerated." Sony made a gamble last month when it decided to push the release of the movie twice, from 24 September to 15 October, then advancing it back to 1 October following the success of Marvel's "Shang-Chi: The Legend of the Ten Rings" in theatres.
