13 Jan – Director Adrian Teh returns with the release of local action blockbuster "The Assistant"; a collaboration between Sony Pictures Entertainment Malaysia and Act 2 Pictures. Written, directed and produced by the filmmaker himself, "The Assistant" will be the first local action blockbuster to hit cinemas since the theatrical industry reopened. This also marks the first time that Act 2 Pictures has joined forces with a Hollywood studio. Anticipation is high for "The Assistant" as it is helmed by industry wunderkind Adrian Teh, the director who brought us the action-packed and high-adrenaline "Paskal The Movie" and "Wira". "Paskal" is one of the most successful local productions that grossed RM31 million at the Malaysian box office, easily having made back its RM10 million production budget. Teh's latest offering, "The Assistant" is an action-thriller that tells the story of Zafik (Iedil Dzuhrie) who was wrongfully imprisoned. After losing everything, he meets Feroz (Hairul Azreen) who seems to always show up at just the right time. As time goes on, will Zafik find out Feroz's true motives? The film also stars Henley Hii as Sam and Farali Khan as Sofia.
The film also marks the fifth collaboration between Adrian Teh and Hairul Azreen, as the 33-year-old actor had starred in Teh's past films: "Paskal", "Wira", "Pasal Kau" and "Ada Hantu". At the Press Conference and Special Screening for the film on Tuesday, Simon Foo, Managing Director of Sony Pictures Entertainment Malaysia said, "We're big fans of Adrian's work and are proud to be a part of bringing this stunning, action-packed film to moviegoers across Malaysia."
" 'The Assistant' is a movie that exemplifies how a good local film should be made and is, without a doubt, a must-watch for those who enjoy a good thriller with a captivating story, great pacing, and an abundance of action," he added. "The Assistant" will be showing in Malaysian cinemas from 10 March 2022.
