7 Oct – Brad Pitt allegedly choked one of his children with Angelina Jolie and hit another. Those were details offered by the actress in a suit filed on 4 October against her former husband in the legal battle over their French winery, saying that the incident occurred during a 2016 flight on a private jet prior to her filing for divorce. Jolie's lawyer alleged that the "Ocean's Eleven" actor grabbed Jolie "by the head and shook her, and then grabbed her shoulders and shook her again before pushing her into the bathroom wall".
He then started deriding Jolie with insults and "lunged at his own child and Jolie grabbed him from behind to stop him", when one of the kids defended her. The suit continues, "The children rushed in and all bravely tried to protect each other. Before it was over, Pitt choked one of the children and struck another in the face. Some of the children pleaded with Pitt to stop. They were all frightened. Many were crying." The lawyer claimed that the incident motivated Jolie to sell her interest in the winery to Pitt, but that as part of the purchase, was demanded by Pitt to agree to a clause that would keep her from speaking out about the alleged abuse. It is noted that the allegations of abuse on the plane first surfaced in 2016, though details were kept sealed in divorce documents and investigations by the FBI and Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. Both agencies found no necessity to take action against Pitt, and the actor has never been charged in relation to the incident.
