20 Dec – James Cameron's "Avatar: The Way of Water" has made USD 435 million at the global box office in the first three days of its release.

The movie, which debuted to USD 301 million around the world and USD 134 million opening in the US alone, became among the few movies which successfully opened over USD 100 million since the pandemic.

However, while that result would have been tremendous for any other movie, that is still not that much of an opening number for "Avatar 2", seeing that the movie took around USD 350 to 400 million to make.

In a previous interview, Cameron himself stated that the movie has to gross over USD 2 billion for it to be considered a success.

It is noted that the first "Avatar", released in 2009, made USD 2.9 billion at the box office, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time.

The sequel, which came 12 years after the first one, sees Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana reprising their roles as Jake Sully and Neytiri as they face new challenges in a new setting, as well as their past that are now haunting them.
