18 May – Despite the increase of support Johnny Depp has been getting since his case against Amber Heard went on trial, it doesn't look like Disney will be hiring the actor back to play his most famous role of Jack Sparrow.

The news was shared by "Pirates of the Caribbean" producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who said that they are developing two different scripts for the said franchise.

"We're talking to Margot Robbie. We are developing two Pirates scripts - one with her, one without," Bruckheimer told The Sunday Times. "[Will Depp be back?] Not at this point. The future is yet to be decided."

It is noted that the project with Robbie was first announced in 2020, with Christina Hodson, who also worked with the actress on "Birds of Prey" to write the script for the project.

Depp's last appearance as Jack Sparrow was in the 2017 Pirates movie, "Dead Men Tell No Tales". The actor was dropped by Disney following the actor's ex-wife Amber Heard's The Washington Post op-ed in which she alleged domestic abuse.

He is currently engaging Heard in a USD 50 million defamation lawsuit over the said article.
