9 Sep – Idris Elba recently admitted that he had been asked about James Bond more times than his actual films, despite never having played the iconic role in his life. The actor, who appeared in a recent episode of The Shop podcast, addressed the ongoing talks about him being Daniel Craig's successor, and stated, "Every corner of the world I go - and I'm talking about different cultures - they always go: 'Bond!'" He continued, "It is not a goal for my career. I don't think that, you know, playing Bond will satisfy some of my personal goals. But it will definitely satisfy the will of a nation." Elba added that he thinks the whole topic is now beyond him, beyond the questions of whether he should or he would.
"I'm not that guy, but in everyone's world I might be. And that – job done. Because the truth is, you know, a lot of people are really seeing Idris playing Bond as the 'alternative Bond.' And as long as that alternative is existing, that's great for the growth of casting," he said. Previously, Bond producer Barbara Broccoli stated that they are not looking for the next James Bond for the time being, as they wanted a solid approach to where the character will go in the future before making any decisions.
