15 Aug – Joko Anwar recently admitted that he has plans for another sequel to his hit horror movie, "Pengabdi Setan", if the second film is a success. According to Detik, the Indonesian filmmaker, whose movie "Pengabdi Setan 2: Communion" is now in theatres, said as much during a press conference in his home country, saying that there are some parts that he has noted in the script that he thinks can be a continuation for the next film. "But for us to start writing the third film, this one must be a success first," he added.
Nonetheless, Joko is not talking about the success at the box office alone, stressing that success to him means that the audience wants to know what is next and that they love the characters. "So, whether or not there will be movie number three depends on whether or not the audiences love the characters of the second film," he added. The sequel follows Rini as she must face her past fears and face the challenges as she and her family try to break the curse cast upon them following the death of Rini's mother, who was involved in a satanic cult. Released in 2017, the first film was both a critical and box office success. It became the highest-grossing domestic Indonesian film of that year. And it looks like the third movie may not be impossible, as "Pengabdi Setan 2" is already a big success in its home country with more than four million people watching it, becoming the second highest-grossing film of 2022 behind "KKN Di Desa Penari", while still being screened in cinemas. "Pengabdi Setan 2: Communion" is playing in cinemas now. Don't miss it, do you dare?
