The first movie first came out in 1984, starring Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita as the student-mentor Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Miyagi.

It spawned two more movies, as well as a 2010 reboot starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan.

In recent years, the franchise became relevant again via the Netflix series, "Cobra Kai", which stars Macchio and William Zabka, the latter who played Daniel LaRusso's primary rival, Johnny Lawrence.
