19 Sep – Following the success of the hit spinoff series, "Cobra Kai", the "Karate Kid" franchise is going to be revived with a fifth instalment of the movie. The news was announced by Sony's Columbia Pictures, stating that the fifth movie will be arriving in cinemas on 7 June 2024, described as "the return to the original Karate Kid franchise". However, no information was given about the cast and director.
The first movie first came out in 1984, starring Ralph Macchio and Pat Morita as the student-mentor Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Miyagi. It spawned two more movies, as well as a 2010 reboot starring Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan. In recent years, the franchise became relevant again via the Netflix series, "Cobra Kai", which stars Macchio and William Zabka, the latter who played Daniel LaRusso's primary rival, Johnny Lawrence.
