1 Aug – Madonna recently admitted that the reason she decided to direct her own biopic was so that it would not become a male-focused project.
The pop icon, who spoke to Variety about her upcoming film, which has cast Julia Garner in the lead, stated that she has to make an extraordinary film to document her extraordinary life.
"It was also a preemptive strike, because a lot of people were trying to make movies about me. Mostly misogynistic men. So, I put my foot in the door and said, 'No one's going to tell my story but me,'" she said.
Madonna, who also wrote the script herself with the help of screenwriter Diablo Cody, stated that she had been whittling away at the script to make it shorter, but likening it to "hacking off my limbs".
In a previous interview, Madonna stated that the movie will be all about music.
"I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer - a human being, trying to make her way in this world... Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me. It's essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision," she said.
