22 Mar – Rachel Zegler recently revealed that she has not been invited to the upcoming Academy Awards, despite her movie, "West Side Story" is up for Best Picture. The actress spoke about it as a response to a fan's comment, who stated that they wanted to see what she would be wearing on the night of the Oscars. "I'm not invited so sweatpants and my boyfriend's flannel," she said. Zegler also suggested that she has attempted to obtain a ticket, adding, "I will root for West Side Story from my couch and be proud of the work we so tirelessly did 3 years ago. I hope some last-minute miracle occurs and I can celebrate our film in person but hey, that's how it goes sometimes, I guess."
It is noted that actors of a Best Picture movie would usually be invited to attend the ceremony, and seeing that the upcoming event is returning to normal in comparison to last year's very controlled ceremony, it is a head scratcher as to why she is not invited. The Steven Spielberg musical film has been nominated in seven categories including Best Director and Best Supporting Actress for Ariana DeBose. While Zegler was not nominated, she did win a Golden Globe earlier for her performance as Maria.
