9 Nov – Satirical cartoonist Zunar recently confirmed rumours of an autobiographical film about Malaysian political icon Anwar Ibrahim. The famous/infamous cartoonist (based on your political leanings), who is also set to executive produce the project, shared the news on Instagram today, revealing that the said film is currently being titled "Anwar". The film, a Malaysia-Indonesia collaboration, is set to star Farid Kamil as the titular Opposition leader, with Acha Septriasa to play wife Wan Azizah and Hasnul Rahmat as the former Prime Minister Tun Mahathir.
The movie is helmed by Indonesian director Viva Westi of "Jenderal Soedirman" fame. According to Zunar, the film will depict Anwar's struggle in politics as he goes against the corrupted system to his eventual imprisonment. It has been in the works since 2011 and will be showing in cinemas in 2023.
