30 Oct – China has submitted "The Wandering Earth 2" as its representative film for the Best International Feature Film category at the Oscars. The movie, which is a prequel to the 2019's film of the same name, is directed by Frant Gwo and stars Andy Lau, Wu Jing, Li Xuejian and Sha Yi.
The original 2019 movie was based on the short story of the same name by sci-fi writer, Liu Cixin. The prequel grossed USD 604 million at the box office when it was released back in January.
Earlier, it was revealed that Hong Kong has submitted "A Light Never Goes Out", a debut movie of director Anastasia Tsang to be its representative for the category. Meanwhile, Taiwan has sent the comedy movie, "Marry My Dead Body". Other Asian submission includes "Tiger Stripes" from Malaysia, "The Breaking Ice" from Singapore, "Perfect Days" (Japan), and "Autobiography" (Indonesia).
