10 Feb - Disney recently announced that they are working on the sequels for three of its animated hits. In a recent Q1 earning calls, CEO Bob Iger revealed that "Toy Story", "Frozen" and "Zootopia" will be the three animated features with new movies in store. "We'll have more to share about these productions soon, but this is a great example of how we're leaning into our unrivaled brands and franchises," he said.
It is noted that "Toy Story" already has four movies, while "Frozen" released its sequel in 2019. Meanwhile, "Zootopia" premiered its television spin-off in 2022 on Disney+. The announcement was met with much excitement as well as criticism, with some speculating that Disney is trying to recoup from previous losses, after several of its recent releases did not make bank. These include the two LGBT-friendly entries, "Strange World" and "Lightyear".
