1 Jun – The Malaysian National Film Development Agency (FINAS) announced that Prof. Dr. Md Nasir Ibrahim's contract as the agency's Chief Executive Officer (CEO) has ended on 1 June. FINAS stated that the decision to terminate Md Nasir's contract was made as a restructuring step for the relevant agency in order to bring about changes to the local film industry. The statement read, "This structuring will bring about a re-alignment or recalibration to the policies, programmes and activities of the creative industry, especially the film industry. Hopefully this initiative can help Malaysian filmmakers produce quality films that have high local and international market value."
During the interim period, FINAS' Deputy Director General of Management Rozita Waty Ridzuan will carry out the duties until the relevant position is filled. Prior to this, the then Ministry of Communication and Multimedia announced the inauguration of Md Nasir as the new CEO of FINAS for a period of two years with power of attorney from 1 November 2021 to 30 October 2023. Dr Md. Nasir was originally appointed to replace the former CEO, Ahmad Idham Ahmad Nadzri, who resigned in October 2021. Meanwhile, Dr Md. Nasir stated that he was terminated without being given the reason for termination. "I will be holding a press conference on the matter," he added.
