10 Jul - It is a good month for horror but not so much summer blockbusters as "Insidious: The Red Door" became the top movie of the weekend. The horror film, which is the fifth in the "Insidious" franchise, opened to an estimated USD 32.7 million in the US, besting "Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny", which has now fallen to No 2. The number positioned "The Red Door", directed by Patrick Wilson for the first time, in second place behind "Insidious: Chapter 2" when it comes to domestic opening, with the latter making USD 40.3 million in the first three days of its release back in 2013.
It also made USD 31.4 million internationally for a total of USD 64.1 million overall. Meanwhile, "Dial of Destiny" has now earned USD 247.9 million worldwide, still far away to be considered a success seeing that it was made with a budget of nearly USD 300 million. On the other hand, the raunchy "Joy Ride", which marks the directorial debut of Malaysian filmmaker Adele Lim, opened with only USD 5.9 million in the US.
