25 Sep – Jamie Lee Curtis got fans excited when she expressed her interest to be a part of Netflix's live action adaptation of the longest-running manga and hugely popular anime, "One Piece". The actress, who saw the interest of many fans of the anime to see her play the role of Doctor Kureha, took to social media and wrote, "Hey, [Netflix One Piece Anime]. The internet has spoken and mommy needs a job."
She also went on Instagram and expressed, "ONCE the STRIKE against the greed of the AMTPT is SETTLED with a FAIR CONTRACT, I will lobby along with the growing fan frenzy to become Doctor Kureha in [Netflix's One Piece]."
Her post attracted the attention of Matt Owens, the showrunner of the show, who commented, "Mommy dearest, that's why we sent you that figure! No need to lobby. Once we get what we deserve and get back to work let's talk!" The communication had everybody jumping for joy, with one fan writing, "YOU HAVE TO GET THIS ROLE. THE WORLD NEED THIS." The character Dr. Kureha is a Drum Island doctor who is an ally of the Straw Hat Pirates. She is also called a witch for her age, her eccentric treatment and forceful method of checking for injuries.
