10 Oct – Jessica Lange recently stated that she has plans to slowly retire from acting, after expressing her belief that creativity is now secondary to corporate profits.

The 74-year-old actress, who sat down for an interview with The Telegraph recently, stated that she felt like wonderful films made by great filmmakers, wonderful stories and great characters are now rare and far in between.

"I don't think I'll do this too much longer. Creativity is secondary now to corporate profits," she said, confirming that she is thinking about retiring.

The actress elaborated that movies nowadays are more about satisfying stockholders rather than focusing on the art of storytelling, and that comic-book franchise films have sacrificed such art for the sake of profit.

She also criticised the "frantic editing" of modern productions, saying, "I don't know if it's because the filmmakers think that they can't hold the attention of the audience anymore. That kind of filmmaking drives me crazy."

Prior to Lange, it was actor Michael Caine who announced his retirement from acting, though the veteran British actor stated that it was his old age and weakening health, more than anything, that is hindering him from doing more movies.
