7 Sep - Les' Copaque team's dream of building their own Upin Upin Theme Park is getting closer to coming true with the possible acquisition of land in Melaka's Alor Gajah. The company's Managing Director, Burhanuddin Md Radzi shared with the media recently, saying that the dream of having Disneyland-inspired Upin Ipin-themed park may be realised in three years' time.
"It's not easy to build a theme park. We have been offered a lot of land for purchase in Cyberjaya, Negeri Sembilan, and many more. But we didn't have the fund to buy land. So, when I met up with the Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, he asked me to write a letter to Melaka Corporation to find the right location," he said.
According to Burhanuddin, he loves the idea of building the theme park in Melaka, seeing that the state itself is a state of tourism where lots of Indonesian tourists would visit. It is noted that the animated series is very popular in Indonesia. "The project may kick off this year since we already have the land. We have to plan this carefully. Next, we will be looking for contractors who can do it and the overall budget might be around RM 700 million," he said.
