29 Nov – Matthew Perry's family has decided to go on and proceed with the establishment of the Matthew Perry Foundation as a tribute to the late "Friends" star. The family recently released a statement regarding the foundation, which was launched on 3 November, saying that the goal was to "identify addiction as a disease, address the complex of stigmas that prevents individuals from seeking and accessing care, and fiercely advocate for better and more equitable treatment."
The foundation was crucial for the family, as Perry himself was open about his struggles with addiction prior to his passing on 28 October.
"It is important to us, as a family, to honor Matthew's legacy. The potential that the Matthew Perry Foundation has to help those suffering from this disease is something we are proud to bring to the world," the family stated.
It is noted that Perry had intended to establish a foundation to support people suffering from substance abuse prior to his passing. He once stated that, "When I die, I don't want 'Friends' to be the first thing that's mentioned - I want helping others to be the first thing that's mentioned. And I'm going to live the rest of my life proving that."
