16 Feb – Ms Puiyi has made a special announcement – and true to her style, it was one that made people pay attention ..and ponder. As the first Southeast Asian woman to be featured on the cover of the American adult magazine Penthouse, the multi-hypernate model /DJ /actress /singer announced on her social media that she is launching her first ever scholarship programme. Puiyi reveals that growing up in the outskirts of Malaysia, her family was not privileged enough to fund her studies. She had wanted to pursue medicine but due to the financial constraints, she had to work every single day till late at nights and juggle her studies and work. There were some days when she couldn't sleep nor have proper meals, and was forced to learn to be independent in many different places. In the end, she could not pursue her dream to be a surgeon.
Puiyi continues "Now that I am able to make a difference, I wish to give back to society by starting this scholarship to students that need it the most. In partnership with Educapital , we will be giving out a total of US$ 1 million to underprivileged students from all around the world. " She explained that each student will be granted US$ 1000 as financial hardship grants while they are in school for them to pursue whichever education field that they desire. The students will also have access to business start-up grants upon their graduation. She encourages the students to send their applications to www.mspuiyischolarship.com However, the website omits to list down the eligibility requirements for the students' applications. There are, however (and not surprising), many photos of Puiyi in many various poses. Nonetheless, there is an "Apply Now" button that leads to another website whereupon the applicants will have to answer 21 questions before one can progress on. But fret not, as there is a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) segment available on the said website.
Even though she could not be Doctor Puiyi, the social media influencer is now a graduate and holds a Bachelor degree of Business Administration from Troy University. At just 24 years old, Puiyi already has over 20 million Instagram followers and has recently made her acting debut in "Pulau". Though yet to be released, the Malaysian movie has garnered much controversy for its steamy trailer. The National Film Development Board of Malaysia (FINAS) has sent an official letter of reprimand to the producers of the film; stating that the trailer needs to be reedited since it "does not display the movie's real storyline."
