9 Jan – After much back and forth, it was revealed that Ridley Scott is ready for the sequel to his hit 2000 movie, "Gladiator".

According to THR, the filmmaker is now in talks to have Irish actor Paul Mescal playing the lead in the upcoming movie in the role of Lucius, son of Lucilla (played by Connie Nielsen).

It is noted that Lucius is the nephew of Emperor Commodus, who is played by Joaquin Phoenix in the original movie.

Although Mescal has not had many movies under his belt, he has gained praises for his performances in the films "God's Creatures" and "Aftersun".

For now, Scott is focusing on his new movie, "Napoleon", which also stars Phoenix as the titular French Emperor.
