"Abang Adik" wins Best Film and Best Actor at the Asian World Film Festival

"Abang Adik" continues making waves on the global arena
25 Nov - "Abang Adik" is bringing glory to Malaysia again after it won Best Picture at the 10th Asian World Film Festival (AWFF), held recently in Los Angeles.

Director Jin Ong, who attended the event to accept the accolade as well as for lead actor Wu Kang-ren, who won Best Actor Award in the Feature Snow Leopard category, stated that the film's recognition truly moved him.

"I thanked the jury members after the awards. Their recognition of Malaysian cinema means a lot to me. I hope that this victory will help Abang Adik get more exposure in its Oscar journey," he said.

It is noted that the film has been selected to represent Malaysia in the Oscar's Best International Feature Film race.

The accolade is just the latest in the movie's arsenal, having won various awards previously including the Golden Mulberry, Black Dragon Critics Award as well as White Mulberry Award for Best Feature Film at the 25th Far East Film Festival in Udine, Itali.

The film has also received 11 nominations at the upcoming 33rd Malaysian Film Festival, including Best Picture and Best New Director for Jin Ong.
