15 Jul - It was an emotional moment for Alec Baldwin as the court dismisses his case in a surprising twist of events during trial.

The actor, who was facing up to 18 months in prison and a USD 5,000 fine under New Mexico's sentencing laws, was seen tearing up on 12 July as Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer threw out the involuntary manslaughter case over the prosecutors withholding of evidence from the defense.

"The late discovery of this evidence during trial has impeded the effective use of evidence in such a way that it has impacted the fundamental fairness of the proceedings," said the US Judge. "If this conduct does not rise to the level of bad faith, it certainly comes so near to bad faith to show signs of scorching."

The defense previously filed a motion to dismiss, accusing the prosecutors and police of misconduct by intentionally withholding evidence that could have been favourable to Baldwin.

This also means that the case against Baldwin cannot be filed again, marking the end of a three-year misery for the actor since the tragic shooting of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins on the set of "Rust" back in 2021.

Hutchins passed away after a revolver that Baldwin shot was revealed to have live bullets. The film's armourer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed has already been sentenced to 18 months in prison.
