23 Jan – Alec Baldwin has been indicted on charges of involuntary manslaughter for the second time for the on-set death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins in 2021. The actor, whose charges were dropped last year after his defense team raised questions about whether his Colt .45 was functioning properly when it misfired, might face up to 18 months in prison if convicted. In a statement to the media following the news, Baldwin's attorneys Luke Nikas and Alex Spiro stated, "We look forward to our day in court."
It is noted that two special prosecutors, Kari Morrissey and Jason Lewis, sent the gun for further forensic testing last summer, where the experts reconstructed the gun and claimed that the trigger had been pulled to release the retracted hammer of the evidence revolver. Meanwhile, the film's armorer, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, is set to go on trial on 21 February on charges of involuntary manslaughter and tampering with evidence. It was back in October 2021 when Hutchins was fatally shot by a gun held by Baldwin on the set of the western film, "Rust" in the outskirts of Santa Fe. Director Joel Souza was also wounded in the incident.
