24 Dec - Produced by Les' Copaque Production, "Dongeng Sang Kancil" is the only homegrown animated film shown this year as the finale for the Malaysian film industry in 2024.

Interestingly, it is the first local animated film that uses 3D hybrid techniques and 2D special effects, promising to deliver an extraordinary cinematic experience for the audience.

Executive Producer of the film and the founder and Managing Director of Les' Copaque, Haji Burhanuddin Md. Radzi, shares that they are proud to bring original works that highlight Malaysian culture to the silver screen, when he was interviewed at the gala premiere of the film at TGV Suria KLCC on Monday.

"I am very proud that after 19 years since Les' Copaque was established, we are still maintaining works that highlight our culture with an original storyline."

"Dongeng Sang Kancil" is the story of the Sang Kancil (mousedeer) with a new look, and it is a folk tale that inspires the world with the uniqueness of the mousedeer as an intelligent and cunning animal. Now Kancil is depicted as a Jungle Hero who solves the problems of the forest animals on a larger and more emotional scale. God willing, all viewers will enjoy this movie."

Haji Burhanuddin added that "Les' Copaque will always study ways to produce higher quality animated works so that the country's animation industry will progress." He is confident that the film, classified as P12 by the Film Censorship Board (LPF), is suitable for viewing by the whole family and all audiences.

In the meantime, Les' Copaque's Creative Content Director, who also acts as a producer and screenwriter, Nur Naquyah Burhanuddin, said that their team has a vision and mission to produce works that are consistently fresh.

"So we injected a mysterious element about the black shadow and kept other jungle animals such as tigers, crocodiles, and snakes because they are characters that are close to our hearts," she said.

"Dongeng Sang Kancil" sees the return of Nini Razali as Kancil's voice actor. Nini has been Kancil's voice actress since she was 12 years old through the series "Pada Zaman Dahulu."

This film also marks singer Amir Masdi's work as a voice actor, playing Harimau Kumbang. He also sang two songs, "Bayang Hitam" and "Dikir Harimau Kumbang."

In addition, the other voice actors involved are Dinda Dania as Arnab (Rabbit), Loke Keng Sun as Sang Tupai (Squirrel), Md Fadzrian Ildzan Fadzian as Gajah Belukar (Bulky Elephant), Muhammad Hafiz Hassan as Helang Perkasa (Mighty Eagle), with Ahmad Razuri Roseli - the director of the film - as Raja Buaya (Crocodile King).

"Dongeng Sang Kancil" tells the adventure of a mousedeer who wants to avenge the death of his mother who was brutally killed by a black shadow. The presence of Gagak (Crow) gives hope that his intentions can come true.

Throughout his journey, Kancil also meets three predatory animals that rule the sky, land and river, namely Helang Perkasa, Gajah Belukar and Raja Buaya. The animal inhabitants of Hutan Rimba are now worried that they will be the next targets of the black shadow.

"Dongeng Sang Kancil", in collaboration of Astro Shaw as distributor, will be shown in cinemas from 26 December, with early screenings on 24 & 25 December.
