Chavez is one of the five people charged with Perry's passing, following the actor's accidental death in October 2023. Perry was revealed to have drowned in his hot tub due to acute effects of ketamine, as autopsy report showed.

The said doctor reportedly operated a ketamine clinic, and had sold ketamine lozenges to Dr. Salvador Plasencia, whom had distributed them to Perry.

Plasencia, however, has pleaded not guilty to similar count.

Said Chavez's legal rep, "He is trying to do everything in his power to right the wrong that happened here. He is doing everything in his power to cooperate, to help in this situation, and he's incredibly remorseful."

The remaining three charged in connection to Perry's death are his assistant Kenneth Iwamasa, friend Erik Fleming, and drug dealer Jasveen Sangha.
