6 May – Horror auteur Mike Flanagan is currently in talks to direct the next "Exorcist" film, to be produced by Blumhouse and Universal Pictures. The director, most known for his Netflix horror series like "The Fall of the House of Usher" and "The Haunting of Hill House", will be replacing David Gordon Green if the talks come to fruition. Green was originally hired to helm the reboot title "The Exorcist: Deceiver", but exited back in January. Blumhouse and Universal had bought the rights to the title from Morgan Creek back in July 2021.
"The Exorcist: Deceiver" was originally slated for April 2025 release before Green departed from the project. No news as to whether Flanagan will helm more than one movie.
On the other hand, Flanagan had recently concluded filming another Stephen King adaptation, "The Life of Chuck", after adapting the writer's "Doctor Sleep" and "Gerald's Game".
