24 Oct - It looks like Hollywood's favourite music maestro, Hans Zimmer, will not be able to compete at the upcoming Oscars.

Variety reported that Zimmer's work in "Dune: Part Two" is not eligible for the Best Original Score category as it did not meet with all of the Academy's conditions.

The Academy has a rule that stated that the score for a sequel must not use more than 20 percent of pre-existing themes and music borrowed from previous scores in the franchise. However, Zimmer's composition for "Dune: Part Two" was revealed to incorporate substantial elements from his work on 2021's "Dune: Part One".

It is noted that the composer has already won the category in 2021 for his "Dune: Part One" score. He also won in 1994 for "The Lion King".

However, while the Oscars is saying no, Zimmer will still have the chance to be recognised by other awards bodies, including the BAFTAs, Golden Globes, as well as the Grammys.

He will also have a shot at the Oscars through his work on a different movie, "Blitz".
