27 Jun - Fans of Steven Spielberg's hit 1975 film "Jaws" and film lovers everywhere will be happy to know that a documentary will be made about the making of the movie. In celebration of its upcoming 50th anniversary next year, Nat Geo has given the green light to Laurent Bouzereau to helm the documentary that will focus on both the Spielberg film as well as the original Peter Benchley novel it was adapted from. Bouzereau is already known for the book "Spielberg: The First Ten Years", for which he talked to Spielberg about the making of "Jaws". He had also directed documentaries like "Natalie Wood: What Remains Behind", "Mama's Back", and the latest one, "Faye", which explores the life and career of Faye Dunaway.
The documentary will be produced under Spielberg's Amblin Documentaries banner, alongside Nedland Media, and will include footage and photography from the Benchley and Spielberg archives, and will also look at "how the blockbuster gave rise to a new generation of shark obsessives", as THR writes. "Jaws", which collected USD 476.5 million at the box office from a budget of USD 9 million, was known for its many issues including malfunctioning shark, bad weather, pneumatic hoses taking on salt water, frames fracturing due to water resistance, corroding skin, and electrolysis.
