29 Mar – Despite his previous optimism about a Margot Robbie-starring Pirates of the Caribbean movie, producer Jerry Bruckheimer is now saying that the next instalment will be a reboot instead. In a recent interview with Comic Book, Bruckheimer said that they are currently working on two of their successful franchises - "Pirates of the Caribbean" and "Top Gun 3", but that the former will take a much longer time. "We're going to reboot Pirates, so that is easier to put together because you don't have to wait for certain actors," he said.
As for "Top Gun 3", Bruckheimer acknowledged the fact that it will be challenging to coordinate schedules of its actors like Tom Cruise and Miles Teller. "It's hard to tell. You don't know, you really don't know. You don't know how they come together. Because with Top Gun you have an actor who is iconic and brilliant. And how many movies he does before he does Top Gun, I can't tell you," he said.
It is noted that back in 2022, Bruckheimer stated that they were developing two Pirates movies, including one that will star Margot Robbie. However, the actress had since stated that the film will not be happening. He also expressed hope for Johnny Depp to return as Jack Sparrow, though the actor had stated in the past that he will never say yes to another movie with Disney following the way he was treated following accusations of abuse from ex-wife Amber Heard. The last "Pirates of the Caribbean" movie was the 2017 "Dead Men Tell No Tales" that starred Johnny Depp as his iconic character, Captain Jack Sparrow.
