8 Apr – Formula One legend Lewis Hamilton recently admitted to have regretted not accepting the offer to appear in Tom Cruise's hit film, "Top Gun: Maverick".

The British race car driver shared as much in a recent interview with GQ, saying that he and Cruise became friends after the latter invited him to the set of his 2014 film, "Edge of Tomorrow".

Hamilton said that he once asked Cruise to invite him to be a part of a "Top Gun" sequel if such a project happens, which it finally happened in the late 2010s when the movie was finally greenlit.

However, due to his busy schedule and lack of acting experience, Hamilton said that he decided to decline the offer.

"Firstly, I hadn't even had, like, an acting lesson. And I don't want to be the one that lets this movie down," he said. "And then secondly, I just really didn't have the time to dedicate to it. I remember having to tell Joe and Tom - and it broke my heart. And then I regretted it, naturally, when they show me the movie and [it was like], it could've been me! Oh, God, I'm still..."

However, Hamilton still is happy with the consolation of having to work again with "Top Gun" director Joseph Kosinski, though as a producer for his upcoming Formula One movie starring Brad Pitt.
