27 Mar – Rather than another movie about the glory and success of the legendary filmmaker P. Ramlee, Megat Sharizal has decided to turn to the fall of the Malay film industry in the 1970s through his new movie, "Mencari Ramlee". Inspired by P. Ramlee's works, Megat stated that the movie will be a fictional take on the struggles faced by local artistes as the glory era of Malay films, especially after P. Ramlee's films began to fall in the 1970s following his departure from Studio Jalan Ampas.
"The movie shared how people only appreciated P. Ramlee during the end of his career or after his death... This is not a P. Ramlee biography film, but a fictional take on his fall from grace," he said.
Stating that he had the idea of making such a movie since 2012, Megat said that he wanted to do a movie inspired by the legend as he became an actor and director because of him. The movie previously already received FINAS' Digital Content Fund of RM 1 million to kickstart its production. Aside from Megat, the movie also co-stars Tony Eusoff, who is no stranger to playing P Ramlee in the past, as well as Sofia Jane, and Mimi Lana. Others include special appearances by Beto Kusyairy, Amerul Affendi, Bront Palarae, Sharifah Amani and Vanidah Imran.
