20 May - Swede actress Noomi Rapace has been cast to play Mother Teresa in an upcoming biopic, aptly titled, "Mother".

The upcoming project will be helmed by Teona Strugar Mitevska, of "God Exists, Her Name Is Petrunya" fame, and will follow the seven consecutive days at a pivotal moment in Mother Teresa's life, the period where she decides to leave the Loreto Entally convent in Calcutta and launch her own order.

Speaking about the project, Mitevska stated that she believes that Rapace, who is known for her performances in "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "Prometheus", is the perfect fit for the role.

She said, "I grew up with the myth of Mother Teresa but as an existentialist, I wasn't that interested in the religious figure. That is until I did a documentary on her life for local TV. I absolutely related to her as a woman and I saw a lot of myself in her."

She also described Mother Teresa as almost "a punk figure" fighting against the structure of the Catholic church.

"Mother" will be co-produced by five studies of five countries - Macedonia's Sisters and Brother Mitevski, Belgium's Entre Chien et Loup, Denmark's Frau Film, the Netherlands' Baldar Film, and Sweden's Spark Film & TV and Film i Väst.
