8 Jan – While many wanted "Barbenheimer" to succeed at the Golden Globes, the 2023 box office duo failed to emerge victorious together after "Barbie" lost in the Best Musical or Comedy Motion Picture category. The Greta Gerwig movie, which has been a fan favourite to win the said category, lost to Yorgos Lanthimos' "Poor Things", a movie about a woman who is brought back to life with the brain of her unborn baby implanted in her own head.
Earlier, Margot Robbie also lost the Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy to Emma Stone, who plays the lead in the Lanthimos film.
However, "Barbie" did win the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement award for being the highest grossing movie in 2023. Meanwhile, "Oppenheimer", the three-hour Christopher Nolan movie about Manhanttan Project physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, succeeded in winning Best Drama Film. The movie, which was released alongside "Barbie" last year, starred Cillian Murphy in the title role and brought more than USD 950 million worldwide. Murphy also won Best Male Actor in a Drama for his performance in the movie, while Nolan won Best Director.
