19 Jul - In what seems to be both a surprise and an anticlimactic turn of events, it was revealed that the Russo Bros are now in early talks to helm the next two "Avengers" movies.

Sources told THR that Joe and Anthony Russo, who previously directed "Infinity War" and "Endgame", as well as "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Captain America: Civil War", have been approached by Marvel Studios amid the chaos following the departure of directors for the said projects.

This stemmed from the recent drop in interest of audiences for superhero movies, with the last several Marvel superhero films failing to secure a win at the box office. It prompted the studio to halt upcoming projects and have rewrites that ended up affecting the schedules of other Marvel projects that are in the line.

At the same time, issues stemming from actors like Jonathan Majors' abuse allegations, had also ground the MCU to a halt.

It is noted that the fifth Avengers movie, "Avengers: Kang Dynasty" was originally given to director Destin Daniel Cretton. However, he departed from the project prior to Majors' conviction.

Meanwhile, the Russos had previously expressed interest in the sixth's Avengers movie, which focuses on the all-powerful antagonist called the Beyonder.

"Avengers 5" is set for May 2026, and "Secret Wars" is set for May 2027.
