26 Jan – Ryan Gosling couldn't help but feel saddened over the fact that his "Barbie" co-star Margot Robbie and director Greta Gerwig were snubbed at the Oscars. In a statement released by the actor following his Best Supporting Actor nomination, Gosling stated that he is honoured to be nominated among other worthy actors in the Best Actor category, but that there is no Ken without Barbie, and there wouldn't have been a "Barbie" movie without Gerwig and Robbie.
"No recognition would be possible for anyone on the film without their talent, grit and genius. To say that I'm disappointed that they are not nominated in their respective categories would be an understatement," he stated. "Against all odds with nothing but a couple of soulless, scantily clad, and thankfully crotchless dolls, they made us laugh, they broke our hearts, they pushed the culture and they made history. Their work should be recognised along with the other very deserving nominees."
At the same time, Gosling did not forget to congratulate fellow co-star America Ferrera, who is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category, after the Latina actress seemed to have been forgotten by the masses in their outrage over Robbie and Gerwig's snub. Despite her Best Director snub, it is noted that Gerwig is nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay alongside husband and co-writer Noah Baumbach for "Barbie". The movie also received eight nominations including Best Picture, Costume Design, Production Design and two Best Original Song for "I'm Just Ken" and "What Was I Made For?"
